Have you ever arrived home in a good mood, only to find as soon as you step inside you are not? Or be at home and your child or spouse comes home and they bring an attitude from “not such a pleasant place” with them? LOL Yes, we all have been there. Question – what if you only cleaned your home once or twice a year? OR worse, what if you cleaned your home the day you moved in and never did it again? We wouldn’t do that, right? Yet most of us do this in our homes spiritually and don’t even realize it. .
No condemnation here, I realize most people don’t think to do this. I know I didn’t do it for years. But, back when my boys were small, and I was cutting my spiritual teeth, the Lord led me to do just that. It started one day as I was praying in my bedroom over my marriage. I prayed for me and husband then I went into my oldest son’s room. I began to pray for him – specifically things that he dealt with and things that were in his life and his battles. I did the same for my younger son. Then as I was going down the hallway, I passed the bathroom and the Lord told me to go in there. I said, really? He said Yes. I went in. He said – what takes place in here? (?/!!??#) LOL – I said – the elimination of waste and washing/cleaning the body. He said to pray that every person that comes in there would be convicted of sin and anything that needed to be eliminated from their lives, and that they would also cleanse themselves spiritually, as they do physically, and be convicted of anything that is not “clean”. Declare that they are washed with the water of the Word. Hmmmmm this started me thinking…..
On to the living room, kitchen, family room and so on. He then had me pray and anoint my doors and windows, but especially the doors that we used to enter and exit. So I prayed that as we left our home, we would have the protection and covering of God, and as we came home, that nothing ungodly that had tried to attach itself to us would be allowed to enter into our home. I declared it was a sanctuary, and a safe place. WOW! What a difference!
Because we all go through many things during the week, often junk comes through our home on our TV’s – sometimes under our control, but often through others that live with us, or we bring junk home from work – had an attitude with a coworker, or even just a stressful day – our peace was stolen… Then there is the computer, people, newspapers, music, etc. Our homes are invaded more than we think! If your TV spews out violence, fornication, laughter at iniquity, etc. (and that can just be the commercials these days) then that’s like someone leaving the door open and a gust of wind blowing junk and debris into your home. You wouldn’t let that happen and not clean it up, now would you?
So, below are some sample prayers for you. Tailor these to your homes, the people who live there and the individual needs. Of course, first and foremost, I would always start with the Binding/loosing prayer (**example at the end) over everyone first, and I do this EVERY DAY! Then take a day and walk through your home as follows:
BEDROOMS: Pray over the person that sleeps there. If it is your child, or if it is there room and they are away at college – pray and enforce Proverbs 22:6, thank the Lord that the Holy Spirit convicts them of sin, righteousness and holiness, that they eyes of their understanding be flooded with light, that they would know the hope to which You (Lord) has called them, thank the Lord that the Holy Spirit leads and guides them into ALL Truth in EVERY situation. And that every assignment of the enemy is cancelled, cast down and thwarted. Also – especially in teens’ rooms – ask the Lord to show you if there is anything demonic that would give the enemy access to be there – demonic themed music or movies, trinkets, etc. And I always ask the Lord to show me if my boys’ were into trouble or anything that I needed to be aware of and commissioned angels to be about them always and that they would feel the presence of God in our house and in their room. That God would grant them sweet sleep, and that they would have wisdom (ten times that of the heathen children like Daniel) I also used to play worship music in their rooms while they were gone. Lay your hands on their bed and ask the Lord to speak to them in the night and give them a road to Damascus experience if necessary. Remind the enemy that YOU are choosing life, therefore your seed shall be delivered! Hallelujah! Pray that your children come into an intimate knowledge of Him, a dependence on Him, and a hunger and desire for Him. Ask the Lord to reveal anything the enemy does not want you to see.
YOUR BEDROOM – if you are single – pray specifically over what you desire for your room – a sanctuary, peaceful sleep, a mate, etc. If you are married, pray over your marriage – that your husband loves you as Christ loves the church and that you respect him. That he leads you and your family with the wisdom of God. If you are in a disagreement pray and thank God that He has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility and made the two one. (Eph 2:14) Thank God that your husband is blessed in his job and is able to provide financially and that you are a blessing and a helper to him. Pray that you are one in the Spirit and in decisions and with children. Pray over intimacy. ALSO PRAY THAT EACH OF YOU HAS AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. THAT EVERY TIME INTIMACY OCCURS IN YOUR MARRIAGE THAT YOU ARE REMINDED OF NEEDED INTIMACY WITH GOD. Pray that you always desire each other with a healthy love and healthy physical relationship. Speak blessings over him and ask the Lord to make you the wife you need to be. Obviously, if you are a man, you would pray over yourself that God would help you lead as He would, that you would provide and care for you wife and children, that God would empower you to love your wife as Christ loved the church, etc.
*if you are not married, but desire to be, pray this over your future spouse. If you are satisfied being single, pray over yourself as a bride to the Lord/or committed to Him and ask for more intimacy in your relationship with Him so that you might lead others to Christ!
LIVING ROOM – pray that as you go about your daily lives that you will always put the Lord first and be a blessing to others. The living room should always remind you that we LIVE for him. It is in Him we live, in Him we move and in Him we have our being!
FAMILY ROOM – pray that He strengthens you as a family unit. That you will show each other kindness and courtesy as if you were a guest. That He would bind you together with chords that cannot be broken. (the Ephesians 2:14 prayer is good too – if there is hostility between members)
KITCHEN – pray that every time you come into the kitchen to eat and fix a meal that you be reminded that you are to EAT the WORD daily! That man does not live by bread alone but by every word out of the mouth of God! Some of us are spiritually starving to death because we do not open our Bibles!
BATHROOM – Pray for conviction of sin, anything that is not pleasing to the Father for everyone who enters the bathroom. That as they cleanse their bodies, they will be reminded to cleanse their souls. Ask the Lord to convict of any wrong attitudes, habits, and practices. Anything that would open the door to the evil one. Ask the Lord to eliminate the junk from our lives and to wash us with the water of the Word and the Holy Spirit. To bathe us in His blood, cleansing blood. What can wash away our sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
One more thing – remember this: the Bible says where there is strife – there is every evil work. So, when you feel yourself getting into an argument with someone and know you should back off, but are having trouble? Know that you backing off or not could be the difference in strife letting in every evil work into your home…….Imagine strife going to the door and calling for its buddies because it now has legal ground…….YIKES!
DOORS in and out – that as you go – you go in peace and in the power of Jesus Christ. Angels go with you and surround you. That you are protected by the blood of Jesus and you are wise as a serpent but harmless as a dove. That the favor of God goes before you and surrounds you as with a shield. And when you come back that no evil thing can come into your home. (memorize Psalm 91 – a thousand may fall at your side, 10,000 at your right hand, but it will not come near your dwelling!!!!) Plead the blood of Jesus over your doors for protection from the evil of the day!
Then thank Him for all the provisions He has given you and the remember the weapons you have just yielded are not carnal, but mighty to the pulling down of strongholds. Glory to God!
Does this prayer guarantee the will of your loved one is changed? No. Free will is just that. FREE WILL. However, it does guarantee, that as they go through each and every day that you pray this, they will be presented over and over with right choices and the conviction of sin, and that they will be surrounded with the goodness of our Father! It is the goodness of God that will draw them to repentance! (Romans 2:4) This prayer routes out strongholds – it is killing the “spider” instead of just knocking down the web. This kind of prayer will, if prayed day after day, peel the layers of resistance off like the layers of an onion… it takes patience, persistence and faith. J
**Binding prayer – based on the book Shattering Your Strongholds by Liberty Savard – this book taught me to pray in such a way that it has changed my life and the lives of many others. The Bible says the keys to the kingdom are – whatever you bind on heaven is bound on earth, and whatever you loose on heaven is loosed on earth. (Matthew 16:19) Looking up the words bind and loose in the Greek – the word bind means to bind to yourself and loose means to break, smash, crush and destroy. Liberty teaches in depth about this. So, I pray this way, “Father, I bring before You me, my husband, my children, their friends and people who influence them, everyone I work with and work for, my extended family, church family and every elected official, (tailor this to your world) and I BIND THEIR MINDS TO THE MIND OF CHRIST, THEIR HEART TO THE HEART OF THE FATHER, THEIR WILL TO THE WILL OF GOD AND THEIR WAYS TO THE WAYS OF JESUS, I BIND THEM TO THE GOODNESS OF GOD THAT BRINGS REPENTANCE AND TO THE TRUTH OF YOUR WORD IN EACH SITUATION. AND I LOOSE, CRUSH, BREAK, SMASH, AND DESTROY EVERY STRONGHOLD THAT HAS BEEN ERECTED TO CAUSE WRONG THINKING, DESIRES, BEHAVIORS, ATTITUDES, MOTIVES AND REASONINGS IN JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.
The Binding prayer, I pray daily. Housecleaning – we should do it monthly? A couple times a month? Each home will be different. But, if you are like me, well, let’s just say, I know I need to do it more!
